Alan Norster
Alan has been involved in commercial and insurance litigation over 50 years. He had a very large personal injury practice but, more recently,
has been involved in professional indemnity claims for engineers, architects, valuers,
accountants and other professionals as well as general commercial litigation. He maintains a continuing interest in personal injury claims and is frequently consulted in connection with them.
Alan is a member of AILA and a former member of the Law Institute Council, the Law Foundation and various professional bodies.

Professional Indemnity
A recent claim has involved advising the insurer of an engineering firm concerning proceedings commenced after much discussion in which the insured
participated and the application of a "known circumstances" exclusion to the insured's claim.
Similarly, acting for a stockbroker who allegedly took an experienced investor into high risk derivatives trading without proper advice concerning the risks.
Liability
Recent claims include -
- Acting for a large engineering company involved in the design of major pedestrian bridge where design changes provided a significant clearance problem for a neighbouring rail facility.
- Advising a civil engineers insurer concerning a claim for repair costs to a rail yard where the insured's contract required it to make repairs to
defects and provided for it to pay repair costs only if it failed to make those repairs. Claim withdrawn.
